Recap: 12/11 and 12/12: The F--k You Audience and the Whoops! shows

Recap time everyone.

12.11.09:  Barrister's, Starkville, MS:

Set 1: Enticement > Blueberry Pie > Apple Pie, Frying Pan, White Squall, Down by the River > Celia, East African Bush* > Lo and Outside
Set 2: The Word > Medicine Daughter, Julie*, Plight of My Heart, Look Up, Where is My Mind **
Notes: *-debuts, **-with piano outro.

Well we started this show off with high hopes of winning over the crowd. But alas it was not to be.  After a fun and funky first set with a Frying Pan Highlight and a nice Lo and Outside closer, we decided second set was for us.

Consciously trying to get the audience to respond in anyway, whether it be interest or disgust, we dove in Medicine Daughter and Plight of My Heart with a ferocious attack of dissonance. These two are not for the faint of heart, isn't that right Sam?

All in all though, we were pleased with the playing of this show, despite the audience's complete lack of interest.  The next night however...

12.12.09: Bennie's Boom Boom Room, Hattiesburg, MS:

Setlist:
Set 1: Umbrella > Rhetorical 3rd St, Rattlesnake, A Hostage Situation, Julie, O Jeremiah > History of the World, Disease Control
Set 2: Frying Pan, War a piece > Old Town Manitoba > National Anthem, Food, The Word > Da Bears > Ways of the Grizzly Bear, Chemical Parade > Lo and Outside

This show features an unorthodox setlist and some sloppy yet exploratory playing.  Check out the O Jeremiah > History for some good mind melts. The War A piece > OTM > National Anthem is an interesting section of music, but beware the Bear portion of the  show.  Major flubs abound!

So until next time.
