We owe our love to music to so many bands, so here is a chance for us to show you some of that respect.
The Beatles:
While this one may be apparent, it may suprise you just how many Beatles tunes we have played. At one point we seriously considered trying to learn every Beatles song there was. Their vocal harmonies and song structure impacted Rock and Roll forever, and as far as we are concerned they are the Godfathers. This is a list of all the Beatles songs we covered, with the ones I have good recordings of available to listen:
A Day in the Life
Across the Universe
Blue Jay Way
Don't Let Me Down
Eleanor Rigby (not so good of an attempt lol)
Flying
Helter Skelter 09.13.08
Hey Bulldog
I Am the Walrus 03.25.05
I Want You (She's So Heavy) 09.23.05
I'm So Tired
I've Got a Feeling
Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band
She Came in Through the Bathroom Window
Taxman 09.16.05
The Word 05.16.05
Tomorrow Never Knows
Twist and Shout
With a Little Help From My Friends
Your Mother Should Know
So as you can see, we like us some Beatles.
Radiohead:
Radiohead had a huge influence and role in pulling us away from pure "jamminess". They manage to be psychedelic without unnecessary noodling. One of my favorite bands, and definitely high up in the band's esteem, we covered The Bends album in its entirity one Halloween. We also have played quite a few of Radioheads other tunes as well:Talk Show Host
National Anthem
Lucky
A Wolf at the Door
Planet Telex
The Bends
High and Dry
Fake Plastic Trees
Bones
Nice Dream
Just
My Iron Lung
Bulletproof...I Wish I Was
Blackstar
Sulk
Street Spirit (Fade Out)
I Might Be Wrong (Rooster Blues did this one)
If you haven't listened to Radiohead, I urge you to give it a listen.
Phish:
This is one of our more obvious, yet touchy influences. We are undoubtedly influenced by Phish, but we also want to distance ourselves from them as much as possible. I almost didn't even add them to the post, but I would be misrepresenting if I didn't. We used to cover a good bit of Phish, but we rarely do now at all. Here's the list:
Birds of a Feather 05.16.05
Dirt (last played 2002)
Run Like an Antelope (last played 2002)
Gotta Jibboo (last played 2002)
Tweezer (only truly played once, teased a lot otherwise, but not since 03)
Mike's Song (once)
Sand
Twist 09.17.05
Bathtub Gin 05.30.03
Thats all of the Phish we directly played, but used to quote a lot more of it back in the day. We hope that we have moved past this for the most part, but we still owe them a lot.
Pink Floyd:
Of course another band that means alot to us is Pink Floyd. This band took the art of extended songs to the next level. Surprisingly very little improv in Floyd songs despite their long, psychedelic nature. They planned most of their notes and the result is some epic perfection. Our tributes:Echoes 04.23.05
Pigs on the Wing I and II
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
Nobody's Home
Brain Damage/Eclipse
Have a Cigar
In the Flesh
Shine on You Crazy Diamond
